March 2015: EMMANUEL YOUTH IN ACTION by Azalie Derard
.
We have just entered the fourth month of the year 2015, and God has been and always will be good! The Youth Department at Emmanuel Church has been keeping active by the grace of God. On February 21, 2015, we had our annual Black History Day service. The Children’s Ministry put together a beautiful skit about our slave ancestors and their fight for freedom. The sermon for the day was entitled, “Pressed, Oppressed, Success”. It was presented by Brother Jo’hans Joseph. The entire church was uplifted by the powerful Word of God being delivered through his humble servant.
In the Afternoon, the Youth Department made history. We had our first-ever coat drive. The initiative was proposed by our choir director, Sister Asha. She suggested that we donated coats to those in need within the Huntington area and minister to those individuals through song and worship. Our coat drive comprised of the Emmanuel Youth Choir, as well as the Ephraim Youth Choir. A mini sermon on community service was presented by Brother Eddyson Cine. The program was a huge success. Many church members were blessed by the worship and songs presented by both choirs. All of the coats were donated to the Helping Hand Rescue Mission, located at 225 Broadway Huntington, Station NY 11746.
Our youth day in March took place two weeks ago. It was a pleasure to have some of our youth who are currently away at college participate in the program. The sermon for the day was presented by our former Youth Director, Sister Asnath Fleuriot. The title was “Crumbs from the Master’s Table”. It was the first time Sister Asnath preached at our church and God truly utilized her as a vessel to speak to his people.
My hope is that the church family continues to keep the Youth Department in their prayers. It is not an easy task, but any chance we get to work for the Lord, ultimately it is well worth it. We will continue to move forward!
